What a tractor! Traccy is a red Ford and does all the really important stuff at Childs Farm. As most of our activites are animal related, he needs to work on feed and fodder. So, in the Spring he will harrow and roll the land for to prepare the grass for hay, and then in the summer, when the grass is high, cut it, then turn it to dry it , and then bale it. There are so many attachments to Traccy, you wouldn't believe! At this time of year, he has a hedge cutting attachment for cutting all the hedges at the edge of the fields. In the winter, he is used to carting the hay and haylage around: our horses eat from massive bales of Haylage, put into Cattle feeders, which Traccy fills every week.

Breed: Welsh Section A Pony

Ben is 30 years old and is the bestest most wonderful most fabulous pony in the whole wide world. He has taught so many children to ride it is impossible to count, he has attended more Pony Club events than probably any pony ever, he has all his own teeth in perfect working order, and he is the most patient pony when it comes to fancy dress. We just love him to bits which is why we have made him one of the stars of Childs Farm.

Call ducks were originally known as Coy ducks or decoy ducks . Although they were first heard of in Europe from the Netherlands, they are believed to have orginated from the Far East and brought back by sea captains. They first came to the UK in the 1850s.
Childs Farm has 5 call ducks: Ned, Ted, Fred, Margot and Vivien, who do nothing more than look gorgeous. They are smaller than other ducks, often referred to as bantam size, and weigh only 1.5lb, which is less than a bag of sugar.
They are proper quacking ducks, and are the perfect models for some of our products.

Colour: Brown
The Field Mouse is the common name for a range of mice in the UK which are really called Long Tailed Field Mouse, or Wood Mouse. It provides a vital food source for many of the UK’s carnivorous creatures, such as owls, birds of prey and foxes. They have a dark brown fur with enormous eyes . They grow to about 10cm long and weigh 30 grams or so fully grown.??
The Wood Mouse will live just about anywhere there is food and shelter. It traditionally roams fields, hedgerows, forests and grass lands where it can find plenty of food. They are omnivorous and will eat a range of seeds, berries, invertebrates, worms, carrion and other similar food. ?
They nest wherever there is cover and warmth, usually below ground but they can also be found in hedgerows, buildings, boiler rooms and our hay loft!?
They are generally nocturnal animals, which means they sleep during the day and go out at night, and their big ears and eyes mean they have excellent hearing and vision.

Colour: Silvery grey to black
Most people think that moles are completely black, but they vary in colour from a silvery grey to black. They have a short tail which is covered in sensory hairs, which also appear on and around the chin, on the face and around the back of the ears. When the mole is working the tail is held semi-erect to brush the tunnel walls to pick up vibrations passing through the ground. These sensory organs around the head allow the mole to detect worms and insects.
The eyes are small and completely hidden in the fur to give the appearance of being blind but it can still differentiate between light and dark.
The female has one litter a year, of between 2-7 but usually 3-4. and breeding takes place around Feb to June, the young are fully mature at 5 weeks and live on average between 2 to 5 years.

An earthworm is a tube-shaped, segmented animal that is commonly found living in soil. Its digestive system runs straight through its body, it conducts respiration through the cuticle covering its skin, and it has a simple, closed blood circulatory system. Earthworms are hermaphrodites - each individual carries both male and female sex organs. As an invertebrate it lacks a skeleton, but an earthworm maintains its structure with fluid-filled chambers functioning as a hydrostatic skeleton.

Breed: Gloucester Old Spot Pig
Colour: Pink with black spots
The breed originated in south west England. They were usually kept in the cider and perry pear orchards of the area and on the dairy farms. Windfall fruit and waste from the dairies supplemented its grazing habit. Local folklore says that the spots on its back are bruises from the falling fruit! Besides its correct title and variations such as Gloster Spot or just Old Spot, the breed is also known as The Orchard Pig and The Cottager's Pig.

Snails are one of the earliest known types of animals in the world. There is evidence that they evolved more than 600 million years ago. They are able to adapt to a variety of living conditions and they don?t require large amounts of food. They have been able to continually evolve to survive the conditions around them which many researchers find to be very fascinating.
All snails are classified as mollusks because of the hard shell that protects their bodies. Many people confuse slugs as snails but they aren?t in the same category due to the fact that they don?t have shells. You will find that there aren?t any shortages of snails around the world.
